David Troice

David Troice (born in 1990) is a Mexican-American artist based in Mexico City, whose work focuses on creating origami sculptures in steel inspired by the geometry and physics of the universe. Influenced by the works of Escher, Vasarely, and Kapoor, Troice's work challenges the viewer's perception of space and dimensionality.

Troice bends and assembles sheets of steel into complex three-dimensional shapes, creating geometric artworks that engage and transform space. His sculptures are a study in precision and patience, requiring careful planning and execution to achieve the desired effect. Troice is fascinated by how seemingly disparate phenomena, such as the spiral patterns of galaxies and the hexagonal shapes of beehives, can be explained by the same mathematical principles.

His process of folding steel into complex geometric shapes is a way of uncovering those hidden structures underlying the natural world. Ultimately, Troice seeks to push the boundaries of what is possible, both in terms of form and function, and create works that resonate with people on a deep and meaningful level.

Through his work, he invites the viewer to explore the infinite variations of the universe and contemplate the mysteries of existence. Troice studied industrial design in Mexico City before moving to Boston to complete his studies, combining industrial design with sculpture and earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2015.

This interdisciplinary academic background provided him with a solid foundation in design principles and techniques while nurturing his artistic exploration. Since then, he has exhibited his work in various exhibitions in Mexico, the United States, and Europe.

"I specialize in creating steel origami sculptures that explore the beauty and complexity of our world. My pieces reflect the interaction of light, shadow, and texture, as well as the delicate balance between structure and chaos... My work is a celebration of the interconnection of all things, and an invitation to explore the infinite possibilities that arise when we approach life with a spirit of curiosity and wonder." - David Troice
