Alfredo Gallegos

Alfredo Gallegos' practice unfolds through everyday scenarios and experiences where he introduces materials foreign to traditional practices of painting, sculpture, and drawing.

His exercise is based on creating works through elements that have been transmuted, such as clay, wood, medicine packaging, organic matter, wax, old matchboxes, and various restoration components, where each material is considered a source of information.Gallegos studied Visual Arts at the Faculty of Arts and Design (UNAM, 2009-2013), also completing a Diploma in Curating at the Academia de San Carlos (UNAM, 2014) and worked as a curator at Colectivo Tres and Fundación Novangardo.

His work has been exhibited, among others, at the XXII International Art Biennial of Cerveira (Vila Nova de Cerveira, Portugal, 2022), XIX Rufino Tamayo Painting Biennial (Rufino Tamayo International Museum of Contemporary Art, Mexico City, 2022), XLI National Meeting of Young Art (Museum of Art of Celaya, Guanajuato, 2021), Tijuana Triennial: I International Pictorial (Tijuana Cultural Center, Tijuana, 2021), XII Alfredo Zalce National Biennial of Painting and Engraving (Museum of Contemporary Art, Michoacán, 2020), ABLi Lima Biennial Art (Monumental Callao, Peru, 2020), and FAMA Monterrey (Mexico, 2021).Recently, Gallegos won the Acquisition Award at the Cerveira Biennial (2020) and Honorable Mentions at the XLI National Meeting of Young Art (2021) and the XII Alfredo Zalce National Biennial of Painting and Engraving (2020). Represented in Mexico by Saenger Gallery.
